Wacker’s Super Summer
One thing Auburn will no doubt lack for the 2012 season is power. Hopefully, Cullen Wacker can step in a fill the power drought. If his time for the Mohawk Valley (NY) Diamond Dawgs is any indication? He’ll be just fine:
Cullen Wacker has not had many opportunities to show off his home run trot this summer but the Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs’ left fielder from Auburn University put on quite a power display Monday evening in Elmira.
After winning the pregame home run derby at Dunn Field, Wacker capped a three-hit performance with a game-winning three-run homer in the inaugural Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League All-Star Game.
The Home Run capped off a big night for Wacker in the Perfect Game All-Star Game:
The lefty-swinging Wacker had already singled, doubled and scored two runs when he came to the plate in the top of the ninth inning with two runners on base in in a tie game to face Cooperstown Hawkeye Parker Ray. Wacker lost his bat while fouling off a pitch from Ray and had to retrieve it from a fan. The fan wound up with an even more memorable souvenir when Wacker returned the bat following his three-run home run over the right field fence.
The AUfficial site had a nice profile on Wacker as part of their “Summer League Swings” series and Wacker’s goals before coming back to Auburn:
"I want to work on driving the ball better and hitting with more power," Wacker said. "I'd like to try to hit more doubles and home runs in addition to the singles. I also want to get stronger and faster."
Although his Mohawk Valley team is struggling with a 10-21 Record, Wacker has been a bright spot. He’s hitting at a .353 Clip with 41 hits, 17 rbi, 8 doubles, and 2 Home Runs.
