A Quick and Dirty Draft Primer

The MLB Draft starts tonight and the choices made there will impact the 2012 Tiger Baseball Team in a Big Way. First, let's look at how's available to be drafted:

Seniors

  • Chris O'Neil (RHP/Birmingham/Mountian Brook)

  • Bradley Hendrix (RHP/Birmingham/Oak Mountain)

    • 2010 30th round pick (No. 907) by the Cincinnati Reds

  • Sean Ray (LHP/Virginia Beach, VA/Kellam)

  • Kevn Patterson (1B/Birmingham/Oak Mountain)

    • 2010 23rd round pick (No. 701) by Tampa Bay

    • 2007 24th-round pick of the Chicago White Sox

  • Justin Fradejas (OF/Pensacola, FL/Pine Forest/NW FL St)

    • 2011 35th round pick (No. 1,070) by the Colorado Rockies

  • Tony Caldwell (C/Winter Springs, FL)

  • Wes Gilmer (IF/Pinson, AL/Pinson Valley)

  • Justin Hargett (IF/Hartselle, AL)

  • Justin Bryant (Utility/Remlap, AL/Oneonta)

All of these guys are gone and the draft will serve as their final chance to be selected by a Major Leage Club. There's still an outside chance they can try to catch as an undrafted Free Agent (similar to what Ty Kelley is doing currently). Also, Justin Bryant could still come back to Auburn if the NCAA Grants him an extra year of eligibility.

No here's the list to focus on. The Draftable Juniors:

  • Zach Blatt (RHP/Opelika)

  • Ethan Wallen (RHP/Anderson, AL/Lauderdale County/NW Shoals CC)

  • Caleb Bowen (C/Anniston, AL/Saks)

  • Brooks Beisner (OF/Port Charlotte, FL/Charlotte/St. Petersburg JC)

  • Cory Luckie (LHP/Prattville)

  • Casey McElroy (SS/Orlando, FL/Boone)

  • Jon Luke Jacobs (RHP/Gainestown, AL/Jackson)

  • Derek Varnadore (RHP/Athens, GA/Oconee County/Chattahoochee Valley CC)

  • Dan Gamache (IF/Exeter, RI/Bishop Hendricken)

  • Andrew Morris (RHP/Prattville, AL/Gulf Coast CC)

    • 2010 16th round (#489) pick by Milwaukee

    • 2009 44th round pick by Milwaukee

  • Creede Simpson (OF/Auburn/NW FL State)

    • 2008 45th Round Pick by New York Yankees

As you can see just by reading this list, each of these guys contributed in some regard to the 2011 Team. So if these guys hear their names called, there'll be some anxious moments and some tense decisions to make.

There was an outside shot that Slade Smith could be draft eligible, but he just missed the 21 Year old cut off mark (His birthday is 9/26)

Now in addition to these guys, EVERY incoming draft pick is draft eligible. Here's another rundown of them:
