Solid Glove. Solid Hitter. Solid Build. If there's any easy adjective to describe Garrett Cooper, it's "solid", If it's at all possible to imagine, think of a bigger Kevin Patterson. Well, bigger height-wise. Cooper is about 25 lbs lighter than K-Pat. However, with 2 extra inches he presents a big frame and an easy target for put-outs.
Cooper, right now, is the favorite at First Base. Even without playing an inning in an Auburn uniform. He comes from El Camino with a reputation as a solid and patient hitter but is best asset has to be his defense and his impressive and perfect fielding position. Here's his brief AuburnTigers.com blurb
Hit .330 with four home runs and 33 RBIs as a sophomore ... 2011 Offensive Player of the Year ... Hit .378 with four home runs and 38 RBIs as a freshman ... Had a 1.000 fielding percentage at first base ... Two-time All-SouthCoast Conference (1B) ... 2010 SoCal All-Star ... Under Armour All-American
Cooper was a key for El Camino, the #37 JUCO team in America and was the #26 California JUCO Prospect and capped off his legendary status there by hitting for the cycle with a Grand Slam cherry. Solid.
Hopefully, Cooper can come in to Auburn and contribute right away. Honestly, one solid season in the toughest college baseball conference in the country and he will hear Major League scouts calling.
